Joe DeFrates Memorial Regional Chili Cookoff
Sanctioned by the International Chili Society

This is the LARGEST chili cookoff in Illinois!

The Joe DeFrates Memorial Chili Cookoff held in Springfield, IL on 2/26/2012 was a great success. On an unseasonably warm day in Springfield, IL in February with temperatures reaching near 60 degrees, hundreds of people flocked to the American Center banquet hall to enjoy chili, hot dogs, cold beer and the Daytona 500. Even though the Daytona 500 was postponed, it looks like the cookoff will contribute well over $10,000 for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children of St. Louis and the Masonic Learning Center for Children of Springfield. There was a great turnout of cooks with 32 red chili cooks, 17 verde cooks and 16 salsa entries, ensuring that the Joe DeFrates Memorial Chili Cookoff will remain a strong regional cookoff for 2013. With six world champions in attendance and a $1,000 first place red chili prize, the cookoff was sure to be competitive.

The net proceeds benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children of St. Louis

and

Children’s Dyslexia Center of Springfield, a Scottish Rite/ Masonic Charity
